FABRICATION OF PERIODIC ARRAYS OF
METALLIC NANOHOLES AND THEIR STRUCTURAL AND PLASMONIC PROPERTIES

Abstract. In
this work we implemented a new variant of classical nanosphere lithography
that combines the reactive ion etching (RIE) of self-assembled film of
polystyrene nanospheres with metal deposition to fabricate gold films with
periodic arrays of nanoholes. This method allows us to introduce the
control over the array periodicity by choosing the initial diameter of
spheres, the metallic hole diameter by RIE etching time as well as the
film thickness. The films morphology was characterized by AFM whereas
their optical properties were measured using optical fibre
microreflectometry and transmission. Our objective is to understand how
the structural parameters (hole diameter) interplay onto the plasmonic
response of films in order to enhance the light transmission as well as
plasmonic local field. |
