4. "minaSYS interCOOP 2008", Bratislava, Slovakia, 26 May 2008 [...details]

Slovak University of Technology, Faculty of EE & IT and BIC Bratislava in co-operation with the FFG Vienna in the frame of the “Enterprise Europe Network” initiative and the “MINOS-EURONET” and “REACT” projects organise: minaSYS interCOOP 2008, an International co-operation event in the field of micro-, nano-, opto-electronics & technology, embedded systems, smart systems and RFID.

In conjunction with “minaSYS interCOOP 2008” there will be a plenary session & trans-national brokerage event dedicated to the fields of micro-, nano-, opto-electronics & technology, embedded systems, smart systems and RFID, organised by Slovak University of Technology and BIC Bratislava, supported by the MINOS-EURONET and Enterprise Europe Network projects. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to meet their potential partners for the research and technology development and/or technology transfer projects and to set up new partnerships for future co-operation.

5. STIMESI MEMS Training Course Programme MEMS Design and INTEGRAMplus Prototyping Services, Tyndall National Institute, Cork (Ireland), 9 - 12 June 2008 [...details]

This 4-day course will be given by a combination of academic experts, industrial designers and software developers. It provides an overview of MEMS processing technologies and how to approach the design of MEMS devices. Underpinning concepts of micro-mechanics (with worked examples of accelerometer and gyroscope) and microfluidics, electronic transduction techniques, and the principles of Finite Element Analysis will be reviewed. This will be followed by tutorials on the INTEGRAM/plus /silicon MEMS processes, design rules and introduce various design tools for analytical design, layout and simulation (circuit-level and finite element). This course will also introduce concepts and drivers for multi-domain integration and INTEGRAM/plus/ polymer and microfluidic services.

An INTEGRAM/plus/ hands-on microfluidics training day is planned to be held on Friday 13 June immediately following the STIMESI course and at the same venue. This will include more detail on microfluidic design, modelling and the use of the INTEGRAM/plus/ polymer microfluidics kit and associated prototyping service.

7. 4M Summer School- Micro Mechanical System Design & Manufacturing, Copenhagen, Denmark, 23 June - 4 July, 2008 [...details]

This course is situated in the context of emerging micro/nano technologies. Micromechanical components play an increasing role in micro systems. The use of metals, polymers and ceramics for miniature components requires product development methods as well as manufacturing technologies. Product dimension will range from micrometre to millimetre. The attendees will get insights on the complete product development from requirements and technology possibilities to manufacturing and testing, in an industrial perspective. Indeed it is now well known that micro/nanotechnology is not only a matter of downscaling applications and methods.

  • MINAM Technology Transfer Workshop, Zurich, Switzerland, 21 May 2008 [...details]

    This one day workshop of the European Platform for Micro and Nanomanufacturing will address technology transfer activities within European Commission Framework Programme 6 NMP and IST Projects in their final stages of implementation. The meeting is designed to showcase good practice in technology transfer and the commercialisation of scientific research in the field of micro and nano manufaturing . It will also provide a forum for related projects to communicate technology developments brought about during their project to potential industrial users.
    The meeting will facilitate expertise sharing in the field of micro and nano manufacturing by profiling examples of: - Improved industrial performance delivered through innovation and new collaborations by driving the flow of people, knowledge and experience between business and the research base, between busineses and across sectors; -Effective knowledge transfer between the supply and demand sides of technology enabled markets; -Best practice examples within the community in the development of its ideas and interactions; -FP6 project outputs in the field with commercial potential.

  • NEXUS Consultation meeting on Structural Health Monitoring to provide the EC with input on FP7 future calls, 9 June 2008, Eindhoven, The Netherlands [...details]

    Structural Health Monitoring will be widely used in the future to ensure safety and optimise maintenance. This second in a row workshop is bringing together key users from the aerospace, building, marine and other application areas with sensor systems researchers and industrialists to exchange views and identify barriers and opportunities for implementation. After the very successful first meeting, NEXUS is now organising on behalf of the European Commission the second consultation meeting on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).
    This meeting will address (but not limit itself to) the following key areas:
    - SHM for civil infrastructure, offshore windmills, aerospace, chemical industry,
    - Integrated sensor systems to be used in wireless networks, network
    - Self-sustaining sensor systems, including energy scavenging
    - Long term visions on SHM: smart pebbles etc.
    - Modeling of degradation, prognosis of damage
    - Standards, etc.
    The meeting, hosted by the Holst Center in Eindhoven, will aim at a high level of interaction between participants.
    The workshops are for invited experts only but a few places are still available. Interested parties will receive the report from the first meeting.

  • IMS 2008 International Microwave Symposium, Atlanta, GA, USA, 15 - 20 June 2008 [...details]

    The International Microwave Symposium is the headline conference of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). This will be the largest technical Conference to be held in Atlanta in the next two years and will feature a large trade show as well as a wide variety of technical papers and workshops. The IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium 2008 (IMS2008) will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, Sunday, June 15 through Friday, June 20, 2008, as the premiere event of Microwave Week 2008.
    Microwave Week 2008: The IMS 2008 technical sessions will run from Tuesday through Thursday of Microwave Week. Workshops will be held on Sunday, Monday, and Friday. In addition to IMS2008, a microwave exhibition, a historical exhibit, the RFIC Symposium (www.rfic2008.org), and the ARFTG Conference (www.arftg.org) will also be held in Atlanta during Microwave Week 2008.
