MINAM – the European Platform of the Micro- and Nano-Manufacturing Community Starts Work
More than 150 high ranking representatives of the European Commission, from industry and research institutes all over Europe including like Russia and Turkey met in Brussels to celebrate their launch as a European platform. “We need platforms like MINAM to help implementing the results from research to economic success,” said Dr. von Bose, DG Research, EU Commission, in his welcome address. The strong links between Information and Communication Technology and the MINAM community was one of the main points of the welcome address of Dr. Rosalie Zobel, DG Information Society and Media, EU Commission.

2. The Manufacturing in FP7 Conference took place on 16-17 January 2008 in Cardiff, UK (past event) [...details]
The Conference aimed to provide indepth information about the manufacturing topics addressed in both Theme 3 (Information and Communication Technologies - ICT) and Theme 4 (Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies - NMP) of the European Union's 7th Framework Programme, FP7.
Participants from all over Europe had the opportunity during the Conference to network, discuss, and finalise consortia for preparing research proposals in response to the 2nd NMP and 3rd ICT Calls for Proposals.
The Presentations given during Day 1 were focused on:
- Providing information about manufacturing research opportunities in FP7;
- Lessons learnt from results of previous NMP and ICT calls;
- Expert views on proposal evaluation
- Tips for writing successful proposals; and
- Highlights of the manufacturing topics addressed in the current NMP and ICT calls.
During day 2, experts on proposal writing facilitated consultation sessions for new project ideas and/or already initiated proposals addressing manufacturing topics described in the latest NMP and ICT calls.

The Manufacturing in FP7 Conference was organised by I*PROMS Network of Excellence and sponsored by the European Commission, Welsh Assembly Government and the Manufacturing Engineering Centre (MEC), Cardiff University, UK - Co-ordinator of I*PROMS NoE. The Conference was also supported by 4M FP6 Networks of Excllence, the European Manufuture Platform, the Working Group on Micro- and NanoManufacturing (MINAM), the LAUNCH-MICRO Integrated Project, the MicroSapient Coordination Action, the MINOS Network and the MEC-based MicroBridge Project which is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) UK and the Welsh Assembly Government(WAG). |

New! We have improved the database system with some new features in order to facilitate the access to the information and the management of yours profiles. Therefore we have merged four databases into a single one. The four databases are: specialists, research centers, projects and networks.
The new features are:
- a Research Center profile can be linked to Projects and / or Networks
- a Specialist profile can be linked to a Research Center
- for a Project or a Network profile are listed all the linked Research Centers profiles
- for a Research Center are listed all linked Specialist profiles
- the system is based on a single logon, where the user can manage all the profiles that belongs to his/her account

12. Hermeticity Testing of Microsystems, a Questionnaire from the PATENT-DfMM Project [...details]
Due to problems associated with the standard helium leak test when applied to microsystems, novel hermeticity test methods are being researched and developed at MISEC, Heriot-Watt University. To ensure the techniques are relevant to industry, we have prepared a brief market survey which aims to help us understand how the hermeticity of devices is currently tested.
All contributors will receive a summary of the survey.

Scope of the call: MNT ERA-Net is seeking proposals for commercialisable R&D projects. Consortia of at least two parties from two different participating regions / countries with the knowhow to commercialise the expected results are invited.

2. NanoSci-E+ Transnational Call for Collaborative Proposals in Nanoscience [...details]
A key objective of nanoscience is to use functional nano-objects as elemental units of smarter functional arrays/devices. Before two functional nano-objects or nano-materials can communicate, a whole science of interfacing and interconnecting must be invented.
The present call is limited to ground-breaking research projects that address the issue of interfacing functional nano-objects or nano-materials.

CANEUS Organization has partnered with the French Space Agency - CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales), CCT-MCE (Centres de Compétence Technique - Microsystèmes et Composants Electroniques) to host the international “MNT Reliability for Aerospace” Workshop in Toulouse, France, from March 6-7, 2008. As a unique deliverable of this workshop, the final two-group session will be an organized teaming opportunity allowing participants to discover mutual interests. This networking will spark relationships and encourage collaborations on the pilot project and funding mechanism.
